Job summary

McMurry University seeks an Academic Success Coach to support the Warhawk Success Center in Abilene, TX. The role provides direct services to students, helping them set academic and career goals, develop learning strategies, and improve time management and organization to achieve academic success.

The coach will conduct individual and group sessions, track progress, document meetings, and coordinate with faculty and staff to address students' needs, while maintaining ongoing communications

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree plus 2-3 years in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or related field.
• Strong time management and problem solving skills.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
• Excellent written and communication skills.
• Ability to communicate with a variety of campus constituencies.

Responsibilities

• Fosters persistence and completion of a caseload of students
• Monitors progress of students with check-ins, meetings, or outreach
• Conducts academic coaching through individual or group sessions
• Helps students develop self-efficacy and study skills
• Identifies and implements learning strategies and study skills
• Refers students to appropriate academic resources and collaborates to monitor progress
• Evaluate academic progress of students on Academic Success Plan
• Maintain documentation of meetings with students
• Regular communication with students throughout the semester
• Interventions during-term and end-of-term as needed
• Coordinate with faculty to meet students' academic needs
• Connect at-risk students with appropriate academic support
• Collect and provide reports related to departmental goals
• Other duties as assigned by the Director

Job Summary

This individual will work in support of the Warhawk Success Center (WHSC) to provide direct services to students. The Academic Coach helps students develop skills, behaviors and habits that contribute to success in college. These includes academic and career goal setting, learning strategies, time management and organization, self-regulation and self-efficacy.

Job Duties And Responsibilities

• Fosters persistence and completion of a caseload of students
• Monitors progress of students in caseload with check-ins, scheduled meetings or proactive outreach and communication, responding to students questions, concerns and needs
• Conducts academic coaching through individual or group sessions that help students assess their own performance and develop academic success plans
• Assists students in developing self-efficacy by identifying and overcoming obstacles that may be impeding academic success; works with students to learn strong time management and organization skills; motivates students to practice self-regulation and take ownership of their academic success
• Helps students in identifying, developing and implementing learning strategies and study skills specific to course materials
• Refers students to appropriate academic personnel and support resources and collaborates with others to monitor and accelerate the academic progress of the students referred
• Performs duties that are unique to specific department or academic college
• Evaluate the academic progress of students completing the Academic Success Plan
• Maintain appropriate documentation of all meetings with students
• Maintain regular communication with students throughout the semester
• Conduct during-term and end-of-term student interventions as needed based on course performance and/or GPA
• Coordinate with faculty and staff to help meet students' academic needs
• Connect at-risk students with appropriate academic support programming
• Collect, document, and provide necessary reports related to departmental goals

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree, 2-3 years of experience in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or other closely related field;

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in higher education, student affairs, counseling, or other closely related field is preferred.
