Job summary

Louisiana State University Alexandria is seeking a Professional Advisor to guide students in developing a plan of study that meets degree requirements. The role includes assisting with course selection, scheduling, and related advising duties, while monitoring progress and implementing corrective actions as needed in collaboration with Student Engagement.

Qualifications

• Baccalaureate degree is required.
• Minimum one year of job-related experience.
• Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative.
• Effective verbal and written communications skills and effective presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide advising services to prospective and currently enrolled students via in-person, email, phone, Zoom, group advising, and walk-ins.
• Assist students with degree program options, extracurricular activities, exchanges, research and internships aligned with goals.
• Monitor advisees’ progress and address questions and concerns.
• Provide reports on advising trends and progress.
• Coordinate meetings and improve communication with academic departments.
• Collaborate with academic units and student services to support students.
• Follow office communication plans including emails, calls, and meetings with student groups.
• Work with Deans and Chairs to ensure proper advising.
• Assist Deans and Chairs with recruiting and retention efforts.
• Maintain communication with Dean and program faculty.
• Be proficient with general education curriculum, office policies, and Degree Navigator.
