Job description

Job Overview

The GW Writing Center, part of the University Writing Program (UWP) at GWU, offers courses to enhance students' writing skills. It provides free, peer-based support through one-on-one sessions, aiming to improve writing and editing skills. The Academic Department Administrator I reports to the UWP Administrative Supervisor and collaborates with the Writing Center Director to manage a staff of about fifty, including graduate and undergraduate consultants and front-office assistants.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Coordinate the Writing Center Office: Supervise and mentor staff, manage schedules, maintain communication, handle finances, oversee website and facilities, and organize community events.
  2. Collaboration with the GWWC Director: Assist in management responsibilities, attend meetings, manage client records, support budget and report writing, and serve as a liaison within the university.
  3. Manage the Writing Center Schedule: Create and maintain staff schedules, oversee online appointment systems, and manage coverage for various sessions and events.
Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or GED plus 3 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor's degree or higher in a related field. Degree must be conferred by the start date. Equivalent education, training, and experience may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with budget management and accounting.
  • Proficiency in online document sharing, Microsoft Office, and other relevant software.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
