Job summary

The CUNY Fatherhood Academy (CFA) is a comprehensive program designed to promote responsible parenting and to foster economic stability for unemployed and underemployed young fathers through education, employment, and personal development. The Academic Program Coordinator will support participants with counseling, workshops, and educational planning, reporting to the Program Manager.

The role is on-campus at Hostos Community College in New York City.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree required.
• Two years’ experience counseling fathers, young adults, or a related population.
• Ideal candidate will have experience working with the target population and in a college/university setting.
• Strong organizational, time-management, administrative skills, and knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with databases; ability to lead sessions virtually using Zoom, Khan Academy, and other educational apps.
• Willingness to take initiative, meet deadlines with changing priorities; experience with program start-ups a plus.
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work in a diverse environment with sociocultural competence.
• Demonstrate leadership, problem-solving, decision-making and creative thinking skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and record keeping.
• Knowledge of Common Core, GED prep, work readiness and college placement exams.
• Ability to work some evenings or weekends for special events.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a caseload of active and alumni participants; provides individual and group counseling, coaching, mentoring, and career exploration support.
• Facilitates workshops to educate, inspire and guide participants toward value as young men and fathers while addressing barriers to self-sufficiency and effective parenting.
• Prepares educational plans including academic assessment, employment preparation, parenting instruction, and college/ GED readiness.
• Coordinates and tracks participant attendance and progress using case notes and program database; analyzes program data and prepares reports.
• Assists with outreach and recruitment activities, including events, social media, and engagement with community partners.
• Screens applicants for eligibility and conducts orientation sessions.
• Researches and connects participants to educational and vocational opportunities based on long-term goals.
• Assists in organizing field trips, family events, job fairs and graduation ceremonies.
• Performs related duties as assigned.
