Job summary

Qualifications

  • Initiative to actively learn university and college degree requirements; interpret and communicate these requirements to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Organizational and time management skills; problem-solving abilities in advising contexts.
  • Comfort with learning digital student systems and platforms, Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook, and Zoom.
  • Work holistically with undergraduate students to enhance the university experience.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships; demonstrate active listening.

Responsibilities

  • Advises directly with Exercise and Sport Science and Sport Management students as an academic advisor.
  • Develops knowledge of assigned majors and university requirements and policies.
  • Helps students understand programs and comply with institutional requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Advises via in-person and Zoom appointments, drop-ins, emails, and phone calls.
  • Assists students in course selection and other educational experiences.
  • Evaluates student progress toward established goals.
  • Assists students in decision-making and career direction, and refers to resources as needed.
  • Maintains timely communication and supports student well-being.
