Job summary

The University of Delaware in Newark, DE is seeking an Academic Advisor II for the College of Earth, Ocean, and Environment (CEOE). You will advise undergraduate students in CEOE majors, guiding course selection and degree progress.

Under the Senior Assistant Dean, you will coordinate with campus offices, support orientation, respond to inquiries, and help students navigate policies, transfer credits, and degree requirements; some evenings/weekends are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience in academic advising in higher education.
• Ability to grasp, retain and disseminate an extensive, varied and dynamic body of information.
• Ability to handle highly sensitive activities with confidentiality, work independently and/or as part of a team, adapt to change and maintain flexibility.
• Working knowledge of college student counseling and advisement practices at the university level.
• Ability to evaluate student transcripts and/or records.
• Ability to communicate to students curricular and graduation requirements.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
• Ability to analyze, summarize and effectively present data.
• Effective leadership, organizational, interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to present information effectively to groups and to work productively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
• Proficiency with PowerPoint, Excel, and Word.
• Proficiency with a student information system.

Responsibilities

• Advise freshmen to sophomore students in all CEOE majors.
• Interpret policies, explain academic standing, review transfer credits and transcripts, and provide general guidance on academic matters.
• Maintain advising assignments and provide referral services to students across campus.
• Serve as a contact for prospective students and tours to inquire about programs.
• Maintain confidential medical documentation and issue excused absence notifications.
• Assist with course substitutions through Stellic.
• Coordinate on-campus college-level visits to support inquiries.
• Provide support for CEOE New Student Orientation and NSO advising appointments.
• Attend and assist with major undergraduate events, both virtual and in-person.
• Correspond with students, faculty, and staff regarding academic deadlines.
• Utilize Stellic to record advisement interactions and conduct outreach to undergraduates.
• Send reminder emails to students regarding academic opportunities.
• Oversee report requests for undergraduate information; pull administrative reports.
• Advise on transfer credit evaluation processes; refer to webpages.
