Job summary

Truckee Meadows Community College (TMCC) in Reno, NV, is seeking an Academic Advisor to guide continuing and transfer students through appointments and workshops. You will assist with goal setting, major exploration, and educational planning for TMCC degrees, collaborating with campus colleagues to ensure accurate, timely information and effective advising practices.

The role requires a bachelor's degree in education or related fields, plus experience in advising; bilingual skills are a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education, student development or a related field.
• One (1) year of experience as an Academic Advisor or related student services area, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Preferred: One year of experience academic advising at a community college or university.

Responsibilities

• Advise continuing and transfer students through individual appointments and group workshops.
• Assist students with goal setting, major exploration, degree options, and educational planning for TMCC degrees and programs.
• Work with Advising staff and other campus departments to ensure accurate and timely information.
• Answer questions via Express Advising and advising email.
• Help students understand placement options for English and Math.
• Assist students with MyTMCC tools and enrollment steps.
• Process course substitutions for transfer-credit equivalents.
• Attend professional development to improve advising quality.
• Support TMCC’s Advising core values: Authenticity, Inclusion, Service, Growth.
