Job summary

Montana State University’s Advising Commons seeks two academic advisors to support students across colleges. Each advisor maintains a caseload within a focus area and collaborates with faculty and staff to promote timely degree completion.

The roles involve holistic advising, orientation participation, guiding course and program selection, and referring students to campus resources, with on-campus, full-time and 0.75 FTE options.

  • Participate in orientations and new and prospective student programming.
  • Learn and communicate complex information to students and other stakeholders.

At MSU , academic advisors play a key role in student success, retention, and timely degree completion. Academic advisors are guides, mentors, and educators who encourage personal development and lifelong learning, and who share information about curricula, resources, and engagement opportunities.

Each academic advisor has an assigned caseload of students within a particular focus area. In addition to advising students, academic advisors work closely with faculty and staff in their focus areas and with colleagues across campus.

We are currently searching for two advisors:
.75 FTE (30 Hours Per week)

1.0 FTE (40 hours per week)

General Statement

Advising Commons is the home department for all primary-role (staff) academic advisors. Advising Commons is a collaborative team of over 40 individuals who support students in all colleges at MSU . We provide specialized and ongoing training for advisors, work closely with the academic units that we serve, and collaborate with colleagues across the university. Advising positions are campus-based and are not eligible for remote work.
