Job summary

Stevens Institute of Technology in Hoboken, NJ, seeks an Academic Advisor to support undergraduate and graduate students in the Chemical Engineering and Materials Science programs. The position combines four on‑campus days with one remote day.

You will advise on degree requirements, help with program planning, participate in recruitment and orientations, and maintain student data in Workday Student to ensure timely graduation, while collaborating with faculty, staff, and department leadership.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of academic advising experience.
  • Familiarity with chemical engineering/programs is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Advise prospective and current undergraduate students in the Department of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science about academic program requirements and provide guidance on choosing and completing a program or concentration.
  • Participate in and lead recruitment events, information sessions, and orientations for prospective and new students.
  • Enter, evaluate, and audit student data in Workday Student to ensure students are progressing through their academic programs in a timely manner and to certify completion of course and non-course requirements for graduation.
  • Serve as primary point of contact to the department chair, associate department chairs, faculty advisors, department staff and current students in chemical engineering and materials science regarding school policies and procedures from admission to graduation.
  • Provide advising support to the graduate program advisors for graduate students, when requested.
  • Coordinate communications to students regarding departmental and college regulations as it relates to program requirements and the graduation process and coordinate mandatory advisement sessions.
  • Advise current students on on‑campus course, web, international and non‑course opportunities to enhance professional skills, competencies and career readiness.
  • Provide assistance to the Office Manager with departmental administrative matters, including routine processes such as purchase orders, invoice processing, work orders, event preparations, weekly announcements, etc.
