Job summary

Hutchinson Community College seeks an Academic Advisor to provide advising services to undecided students and support transfer discussions with partner colleges. The role collaborates with the Student Success Center to coordinate career advising, orientation, and engagement activities.

The candidate should be able to manage articulation documents, support retention initiatives, and document communications across multiple channels.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree required.
  • Academic advising or related experience preferred.
  • Ability to work with students with varied needs and collaborate with faculty and staff.
  • Computer literacy including spreadsheets, word processing, and presentation software is preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written and listening skills; able to sit or stand for extended periods; attention to detail and independent work.

Responsibilities

  • Communicate with representatives from other colleges on transfer topics.
  • Develop and coordinate career advising, orientation, and student engagement activities with SSC staff.
  • Maintain articulation documents using computerized delivery systems.
  • Implement retention procedures with various intervention activities.
  • Document student communications using multiple contact management delivery systems.
  • Maintain resource materials related to advising.
  • Assess students using college-adopted tools.
  • Participate on institutional committees.
  • Arrive on time and attend work regularly; fulfill responsibilities; attend SSC staff meetings.

  • Maintain resource materials related to advising.

  • Comply with HutchCC policies, procedures, and practices.
  • Arrive on time for work, attend work regularly, and successfully complete the responsibilities of the position.

  • Physical requirements: Excellent verbal, written and listening skills; Must have the ability to sit for stand or extended periods of time; exhibit manual dexterity to dial a telephone, to enter data into a computer, and to operate additional office equipment; see and read a computer screen and printed material with or without vision aids; hear and understand speech at normal levels and on the telephone; speak in audible tones so that others may understand clearly in person and on the telephone; use appropriate judgment and to apply tact and courtesy in difficult situations; understand words and respond effectively and appropriately; attentive to detail, accurately follow written and verbal instructions, work independently, sedentary/indoor work environment
  • Mental requirements include the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions about the position.
  • Physical and mental qualifications must be performed with or without a reasonable accommodation.

SALARY And STATUS

Salary is commensurate with qualifications as determined by HutchCC administration. This full-time administrative staff position is 12-months annual, benefit eligible, at-will, and exempt.
