Job summary

Brigham Young University (BYU) is seeking an Academic Advisor within the McKay School of Education to guide students from program exploration to graduation, licensure, and career planning. You will provide individualized and group advising, interpret degree requirements, and coordinate field experiences with partner districts and clinics.

The role emphasizes collaboration with faculty, staff, and university offices to support student success and align advising with BYU's mission and values.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Academic advising certification is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of FERPA and confidentiality.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive academic advising on majors, degree planning, and graduation requirements.
  • Coordinate field experiences, student teaching, internships, and placements.
  • Review student progress and assist with licensure and graduation processing.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to resolve student-program issues and improve the student experience.

In this role, you will provide individualized and group advising, help students understand degree and licensure requirements, coordinate field experiences, and collaborate with faculty, staff, school partners, and university offices to support student success. This position directly advances BYU's mission by helping future educators and communication disorders professionals prepare for meaningful service and professional work.What you’ll do in this position:Provide comprehensive academic advising on majors, program applications, degree planning, course sequencing, registration, graduation requirements, experiential learning, graduate school, and career pathways.Evaluate student records and explain program requirements, admission criteria, transfer credit, curriculum exceptions, and licensure requirements.Develop individualized education plans and academic improvement strategies to help students overcome barriers and progress toward graduation.Coordinate student teaching, internship, clinical, and other field placements with partner districts and clinics.Review student progress, clear qualified students for graduation, and recommend eligible graduates for teacher licensure through the Utah State Board of Education.Collaborate with faculty, university offices, school partners, and state personnel to resolve student-program issues and improve the student experience.What qualifies you for this role:RequiredA firm commitment to the mission of BYU.Bachelor’s degree.Exceptional written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.Comprehensive knowledge of FERPA regulations and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace applications, and Adobe Creative Cloud.Ability to quickly learn, interpret, and communicate complex information.Ability to work independently while contributing effectively in a collaborative team environment.Meticulous attention to detail, strong organization and time-management skills, and excellent problem-solving, critical-thinking, and conflict-resolution abilities.PreferredMaster's degree.Previous teaching experience as a licensed educator, counselor, or speech-language clinician.Academic advising certification and three years of college advising experience.Knowledge of Utah State Board Rule Section 301-306, Utah teacher licensing policies and procedures, and Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) standards.Knowledge of American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) guidelines and certifications.Knowledge of career strategies for education and communication disorders, and membership in NACADA and/or ASHA.Application Deadline: Monday, October 12, 2026 at 11:59 pm (MST)Required Documentation - To be considered, your application must include the following materials:ResumeCover LetterWhat we offer in return:In addition to our competitive pay structure, this position comes with fantastic benefits , including:401k.
