Job summary

New York University is seeking an Academic Advisor to support first-year students in articulating academic goals and building educational plans. You will advise about 150 undergraduates, conduct individual and group sessions, and coordinate with departmental advisors to boost retention.

In addition, you will help with hiring, training, and supervising student workers, contributing to a collaborative, student-centered advising team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in counseling, student personnel development, education, or related field.
• Master's degree preferred in higher education administration, psychology, social work or related area.
• 2+ years of related experience in an educational setting.
• Knowledge of PeopleSoft is a plus; experience with databases is also preferred.
• Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and customer-service skills; proficient in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

The Academic Advisor will advise approximately a caseload of 150 undergraduate students on a wide range of academic issues, facilitating individual and group sessions throughout the academic year. In addition, the Academic Advisor works with departmental advisors and other university offices to increase student retention. The Academic Advisor will also assist with the hiring, training, and supervision of students.

Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree Counseling, Student Personnel Development, Education or a related field Preferred Education: Master's Degree Higher Education Administration, Psychology, Social Work or related area Required Experience: 2+ years related experience in an educational setting Preferred Experience: 2+ years Administrator in a higher education setting. Experience with academic support programs is preferred. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Strong interpersonal, analytical, organizational, and customer-service skills. Candidate must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Knowledge of PeopleSoft and Student Development theories is a plus. Ability to work as an integral member of a team is critical. Experience working with databases.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $77,000 to USD $84,700. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
