Job summary

New York University seeks an Academic Advisor to enhance learning activities and supervise a team of advisors. This role involves monitoring students’ academic progress and advocating for those facing challenges, while adjusting curricula and managing academic support programs.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of advising experience, excellent interpersonal and organizational skills, and a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field. A Master's degree and experience in nursing education are preferred.

The position offers a salary range of USD $85,500 to $104,500 annually.

Job description

Position Summary

Collaborate with senior college leadership, professional advisors, academic department heads, and faculty to provide academic advising and enhance learning activities. Supervise a team of five professional advisors, student workers, and volunteers. Monitor students’ adherence to academic requirements, including technical and academic standards, and track their academic progress while assisting in developing relevant policies. Adjust curricula for both new and continuing students at the College of Nursing. Advocate for students facing academic challenges and personal issues, including those with registered disabilities, by working with leadership to create suitable policies. Manage student academic support programs, such as peer advising and mentoring initiatives, while overseeing advising caseloads, leaves of absence, and withdrawals.

Qualifications

Required Education: Bachelor's Degree higher education administration, counseling, or closely related field. Preferred Education: Master's Degree higher education administration, counseling, or closely related field strongly preferred. Required Experience: 5+ years of progressively responsible experience with student advising in a professional school, including academic review and counseling, policy development, and staff supervision or an equivalent combination of education experience. Experience with electronic databases. Preferred Experience: 7+ years Knowledge of nursing or health related professional curriculum. Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Familiarity with academic support service programs. Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical, and organizational skills. Demonstrated excellent writing and technology skills.

Additional Information

In compliance with NYC's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is USD $85,500.00 to USD $104,500.00. New York University considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and organizational considerations when extending an offer. This pay range represents base pay only and excludes any additional items such as incentives, bonuses, clinical compensation, or other items.
