This position provides holistic advising for students. It assists students with exploring options, setting goals, and creating plans to achieve desired outcomes. The role communicates proactively with students throughout all phases of the student experience.

Essential Functions
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides meaningful and holistic advising, including assisting students in developing plans for academic degree completion, setting academic goals, and navigating curricular requirements to ensure transfer and career goals are met, following the Guided Pathways model.
- Coordinates at least one specialized advising and retention initiative, such as Satisfactory Academic Progress, New Student Advising, Academic Recovery, or Transfer Advising.
- Manages cohort registrations and provides proactive, holistic advising for special populations on campus, including Athletics, Student Life and Clubs, Health Technology Students, Adult Scholars, Veterans, and high school student groups.
- Reviews student transcripts and standardized test scores to determine college placements into English and Math courses for new students.
- Utilizes technology such as Ellucian Student (Colleague), Self Service, Canvas, Office 365, and others to maintain student records, track data, and generate reports.
- Assists in planning and developing academic support programs, events, and workshops.
- Supports student recruitment and enrollment initiatives by attending and presenting at college events, orientations, and high school visits.
- Collaborates with campus resources and external stakeholders to make appropriate referrals for students needing assistance with mental health, accessibility, academic supports, or enrollment concerns.
- Provides advisement support to the New Brunswick and Perth Amboy Centers.
- Participates in professional development activities to stay current on advising best practices and policy initiatives.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree
- Two (2) years of experience in student services, teaching, or counseling in an educational environment, requiring excellent interpersonal skills
- Experience working with a diverse population
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree
- Knowledge of community college student needs
- Willingness and ability to travel within the area
- Driver’s license and reliable transportation
- Excellent communication skills (written, oral, computer, interpersonal)
Physical Requirements
The work is sedentary but may require exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally. Physical abilities include:
- Touch, grasp, handle, hearing, mental acuity, repetitive motion, speaking, talking, visual acuity, and walking.
Schedule
Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.; occasional evenings and weekends; may require travel.
