Job summary

Daemen University in Buffalo, NY seeks an experienced academic adviser to provide holistic guidance for undeclared and other student groups, helping them explore programs, select majors, and design educational plans aligned with their goals.

The successful candidate will maintain advising records, support orientation and registration for new students, and collaborate with Campus CARE while promoting confidentiality, inclusion, and student success.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree required; one year in higher education advising preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide holistic academic advising to assigned student populations.
  • Guide students in exploring programs, selecting majors, and educational plans.
  • Counsel on curriculum requirements, academic policies, and campus resources.
  • Serve as a member of the Campus CARE Team and provide follow‑up and referrals.
  • Advocate for students by connecting them with campus resources and support services.
  • Assist with new student orientation, advising, and registration for incoming first‑year students.
  • Maintain accurate advising records using university systems.
  • Advise and assist with the registration of non‑matriculated students and Daemen's High School program.

About This Opportunity
  • Provide holistic academic advising to assigned student populations, including undeclared, probationary, and other designated students.
  • Guide students in exploring academic programs, selecting majors, and developing educational plans aligned with their goals.
  • Counsel students on curriculum requirements, academic policies, campus resources, and strategies for academic success.
  • Serve as a member of the Campus CARE Team and provide appropriate follow‑up and referrals for students of concern.
  • Advocate for students by connecting them with appropriate campus resources and support services.
  • Assist with new student orientation, advising, and registration for incoming first‑year students.
  • Maintain accurate advising records and documentation using university systems.
  • Advise and assist with the registration of non‑matriculated students and Daemen's High School program.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree required; one year experience with higher education (academic advising preferred).​
  • Dedication to student success.
  • Will contribute to and support the cultural fluency and diversity of our campus.
  • Possess an enthusiastic and positive attitude.
  • Maintain confidentiality in a discreet and professional manner.
  • Effective and friendly communication skills with a variety of students, staff, faculty, administrators, and parents.
  • Proficient computer skills and experience (Google Workspace, Microsoft Word, Excel).
  • Proficient at learning new computer skills.
  • Highly developed organizational skills.
  • Self‑starter, skilled at and open to exploring ways to improve current systems.
  • Multi‑tasker.
  • Detail and accuracy oriented.
Total Compensation

Daemen University offers a robust total compensation package that includes:

  • Health insurance with an option of two plans: an HSA plan with the deductible funded by employer HSA contributions, or a copay plan.
  • Dental insurance through the Guardian network.
  • Vision insurance through the Guardian network, and an option between the VSP or Davis plans.
  • An 8% employer contribution to the retirement savings account when employees contribute just 5%.
  • Fully paid long‑term disability insurance, guaranteed‑issue life insurance for new hires up to a volume of $150,000.
