Job summary

Daemen University invites applications for a Clinical Counselor within the Student Affairs team. The role focuses on providing mental health care to enrolled students, handling crises, and supporting CARE Team initiatives at the Buffalo campus.

Qualifications

  • Licensed or licensed eligible in New York State at hire, with ability to secure license within 10 months.
  • Experience in conflict resolution and crisis management.
  • Experience with University-aged population.

Responsibilities

  • Provide counseling services to students including individual, group, couples, crisis intervention, and other formats based on student need.
  • Provide assessment and evaluation of students.
  • Work collaboratively to support the Assistant Director of Counseling Services and Clinical Coordinator in their formulation and administration of counseling policies and procedures, including updates based on emerging legislation.
  • Work collaboratively with the student affairs division, counseling services staff, CARE Team, and other campus offices to explore ways to best serve the needs of students.
  • Review mental health related CARE reports and follow up accordingly.
  • Maintains counseling records and confidentiality within the confines of best practices and the ethical obligations of the field.
  • Work with colleagues in Student Affairs and other areas of the University on programming, compliance, and related activities.
  • Participate in Student Development meetings, staff meetings, clinical supervision, in services, and other activities.
  • Assist in the planning and assessment process as dictated by the University.
  • Develop and provide reports to support campus assessment and annual reporting needs.
  • Engage in professional development and maintain licensure to practice.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Purpose of Role

The Clinical Counselor is responsible for providing care and treatment to enrolled students, responding to mental health crises and emergencies, and assisting the CARE Team as needed. The ideal candidate will have excellent oral and verbal communications and work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students.

Qualifications

The successful Clinical Counselor candidate will possess a Master's degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, or Social Work from an accredited program. The Clinical Counselor must be licensed or licensed eligible within New York State at the time of hire (with the ability to secure a license within 10 months of start date). The Clinical Counselor must be skilled and experienced in conflict resolution and crisis management, multi-task, and be able to provide excellent service to students with acute and chronic conditions; responding to mental health crises per the University's protocol. The ideal candidate will also have experience working with the University-aged population.
