Job summary

Baltimore City Community College is seeking a Full-Time Tester/Advisor to assist prospective and current ABE/GED and Community ESL students with testing and preregistration. Under the supervision of the Director of Adult Basic Education and Literacy Services, the Tester/Advisor proctors exams, desig ns testing procedures, and supports student enrollment and advising.

Responsibilities include signing in examinees, distributing materials, monitoring exams, entering results, and counseling on test

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Education or related field is required.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Education or related field is preferred.
• Two years of professional work experience in a customer service setting.
• Strong organizational skills with attention to detail.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient with MS Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
• Knowledge of TABE and CASAS assessment tools.
• Experience working in higher education settings is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Sign in examinees and proctor exams (TABE/CASA).
• Run test instructions and ensure exam integrity.
• Assist with telephone inquiries regarding ABE programs and enrollment.
• Submit student registration forms to registration staff.
• Monitor testing center and secure testing environment.
• Check IDs and test registration paperwork.
• Set up test packages on computer or paper forms as needed.
• Enter and retrieve student data in college systems.
• Record exam results in the database and student files.

Job description

This Full-Time position will assist prospective and existing ABE/GED and Community ESL students with testing and preregistration. Under the supervision of the Director of Adult Basic Education and Literacy Services, the Tester/Advisor is responsible for the daily testing and advising of students entering the Adult Basic Education program of the Workforce Development and Continuing Education. The Tester/Advisor is responsible for signing in examinees, administering test instructions, and ensuring the integrity of the exam by proctoring appropriate examination (TABE Online/Paper, or CASA Online/Paper).

• Assists with telephone inquiries regarding ABE/GED® programs and student enrollment.
• Conducts quality checks for student registration and enrollment forms.
• Submits student registration forms to the registration staff.
• Monitor and distribute resource materials to students, adjunct faculty and staff.
• Responsible for ensuring the security of the testing center by opening and closing the Center prior to and after exams.
• Checks for appropriate identification and test registration paperwork.
• Responsible for setting up the appropriate test packages on the computers or paper/pencil as needed.
• Monitors students during testing.
• Navigates TABE/CASA Online to: create student tests, assign appropriate student tests to instructors, and distribute test reports.
• Enters and retrieves student information in the computer.
• Record exam results in the College's database and input data in the student files within the designated timeframe.
• Communicate testing needs and issues, while providing counseling and required information about test results.

Education

• An Associate’s Degree in Education or related field.

Experience

• Two (2) or more years of professional work experience in a customer service setting.
• Strong organizational skills with attention for details.
• Excellent verbal and writen communication skills.
• Intermediate Computer Skills with MS Suites (Excel, PowerPoint, Word…etc.).

Certification

• Must take and pass a computer-based TABE & CASA certification exam within the first 30 days of employment.

• A Bachelor’s Degree in education or related field.
• Experience in a higher education setting.
• Experience with Ellucian BANNER Student Information System.
• Experience working in a multi-cultural community college environment.
