Job summary

New Bedford Public School District seeks an Instructional Para-Educator to provide nurturing support to students with diverse needs. You will assist teachers, help with classroom instruction, and support students in meeting academic and behavioral goals.

The role requires a minimum of 48 college credits or Para Pro certification, with potential CPI training. Experience with special education and a caring, inclusive approach is essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum qualification standards include 48 college credits or Para Pro test.
• Experience with or ability to become CPI trained; experience with Special Education preferred.

Responsibilities

• Work under the direction of the special education/general education teacher and school staff to support student growth and IEP goals.
• Assist students in learning across content areas in individual, small group, and whole group settings.
• Support self-regulation and behavior management to maximize learning and implement behavior plans.
• Provide sensory support and sensory breaks as needed; assistive technology use.
• Support transitions between activities and communicate student needs to staff.
• Review student IEPs as needed to ensure needs are understood and met.
• Assist with personal care needs as required and reinforce daily living skills.
• Maintain safe, developmentally appropriate classroom environment and collaborate with ABA staff and other specialists.
