Job summary

Ellen R Hathaway Elementary School in New Bedford, MA seeks a Para Educator to provide ABA-embedded support to students across instructional settings. You will collaborate with teachers, ABA technicians, and other staff to assist with IEP goals, behavior plans, and classroom management.

The role requires a minimum of 48 college credits or passing the Para Pro test, experience with children, and a willingness to receive CPI training.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 48 college credits or passed the Para Pro test.
• Experience working with children in an educational setting preferred.
• Experience with and/or the ability to become CPI trained if necessary.
• Experience working with children with Special Education services preferred.
• Passion to work with school aged children.

Responsibilities

• The Para-Educator will work under the direction and guidance of the teacher and school staff to support student growth and IEP goals.
• Assist students in learning across content areas in small groups and individually.
• Support students in self-regulation and behavior management to maximize learning.
• Provide sensory support and implement sensory plans as needed.
• Assist with communication between students and school staff using assistive technology.
• Support student transitions during arrival, dismissal and between classes.
• Review student IEPs as needed to ensure needs are understood.
• Provide personal care assistance as required for hygiene and positioning.
• Teach daily living skills as applicable based on student needs.
• Maintain a safe and developmentally appropriate classroom environment.
• Collaborate with ABA Technicians and other specialists.
