Job summary

The City of Naperville’s Police Department seeks full-time 911 Telecommunicators to work in our Emergency Communications Center to receive and evaluate 911 and non-emergency calls for Police, Fire, EMS and other assistance.

New hires undergo a 28-week training program, starting with a classroom introduction, followed by on-the-job training from certified trainers on three shifts. Uniforms are supplied after training. This is a union position with a competitive benefits package.

Qualifications

• High school diploma (or equivalent) required.
• At least 1 year of experience in a job with public contact.
• Ability to maintain composure and use sound judgement in high-stress situations.

Responsibilities

• Receive and evaluate 911 and non-emergency calls.
• Triage and prioritize requests for police, fire, EMS and other assistance.
• Dispatch and coordinate responses to high-risk, high-stress operations.
• Enter and maintain warrants and hot files in law enforcement databases.
• Monitor alarms and ancillary systems in a 24/7 environment.
• Work rotating shifts; occasional unscheduled shifts may occur.
