Job summary

City of Paducah’s 911 Communications Services Division seeks a dedicated Telecommunicator to answer 9-1-1 lines, dispatch public safety units, and relay vital information in life‑saving situations.

The role requires handling high-stress calls, operating CAD/NCIC, and providing pre-arrival instructions while maintaining confidentiality and teamwork. Training is provided within the probationary period, with a schedule including evenings, weekends, and overtime.

Qualifications

• Requires 18 years or older and high school diploma or equivalent.
• Must pass CritiCall or similar skills testing platform.
• Successful completion of in-house training program within probationary period.

Responsibilities

• Answer emergency and non-emergency calls, including enhanced 9-1-1, TDD, text, and administrative lines.
• Determine priority and dispatch appropriate police, fire, or EMS units.
• Document call details and dispositions using CAD and log systems.
• Monitor radio frequencies and NCIC databases for significant activities.
• Provide pre-arrival instructions and coordinate with field personnel as needed.
• Assist and train less experienced dispatchers.
