Job summary

Gallup-McKinley County Schools in Thoreau Middle seeks an Athletic Coach for 7th Grade Boys Basketball. This winter-season position requires on-site attendance, the ability to organize and supervise a complete sports program, and adherence to NM licensure requirements.

The coach will teach fundamental skills, strategy, and conditioning, mentor student athletes, and coordinate with the athletic director and school principals.

Qualifications

• Has the ability to organize and supervise a total sports program.
• Has previous successful coaching experience in assigned sport (major sports).
• The head coach must have substantial knowledge of the technical aspects of the sport.
• The head coach must serve as an appropriate role model for student athletes through his/her instructions and actions.

Responsibilities

• To instruct athletes in the fundamental skills, strategy and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
• To upgrade knowledge and skills through coaching clinics, observations, consultation, etc.
• Work with students interested in sports, provide necessary practice support and advice for a team to be successful against opposing teams in a sports season.
• Teach and enforce rules and regulations. Involves work on evenings and weekends.
