Job summary

Kearsley Community Schools is seeking a 6-12 Literacy Specialist to provide leadership and systems support for literacy instruction across grades 6-12, aligning with Michigan’s K-12 Literacy and Dyslexia Law and MTSS frameworks.

The role includes developing secondary IRIPs, guiding intervention programming, and collaborating with instructional leaders to improve literacy outcomes for all students. Ideal candidates will have MTSS experience and relevant structured literacy training.

Qualifications

• Experience using MTSS to provide targeted interventions.
• Knowledge of evidence-based intervention approaches within MTSS tiers.
• LETRS/Orton-Gillingham/REWARDS or structured literacy training preferred.
• Experience with diagnostic assessment tools.
• Experience in staff training or leading professional development.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for grades 6-12 literacy instruction aligned to MTSS and Michigan laws.
• Lead and develop secondary IRIPs per Michigan requirements.
• Teach daily secondary intervention programming (at least one hour).
• Support implementation of adolescent literacy and structured literacy practices.
• Collaborate with teachers, interventionists, coaches, and admins to improve literacy outcomes.
• Develop, align, and monitor literacy curriculum, pacing, and assessment across grades 6-12.
• Plan and facilitate professional learning aligned to district goals.
• Coach teachers in literacy strategies and intervention supports.
• Collaborate with SPED, ELL, and intervention teams for equitable literacy access.
• Participate in MTSS, literacy, curriculum committees as needed.
• Analyze literacy data to inform decisions and interventions.
• Assist in evaluating literacy materials and resources.
• Support onboarding and growth for new secondary literacy staff.
• Attend district, GISD, and state professional development and share updates.
