Job summary

Kearsley Community Schools seeks a 6-12 Literacy Specialist to lead literacy instruction across grades 6–12 in alignment with Michigan's K-12 Literacy and Dyslexia Law and MTSS. The position provides leadership, professional learning, coaching, and collaboration with teachers and administrators to strengthen structured literacy, intervention services, and IRIPs.

Qualifications

• Experience using MTSS to provide interventions.
• Knowledge of evidence-based intervention approaches within MTSS tiers.
• LETRS certification or Orton-Gillingham training preferred.
• Experience with diagnostic assessment tools.
• Experience with staff training or facilitating professional learning.
• Student-centered and committed to at-risk learners.
• Strong communication with supervisors and colleagues.
• Leader with willingness to lead professional development.
• Team player and able to collaborate with district teams.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and systems support for grades 6-12 literacy instruction per MTSS and law.
• Lead and collaborate to develop IRIPs for grades 6-12 per Michigan law.
• Teach at least one hour of secondary intervention daily.
• Support evidence-based adolescent literacy and structured literacy practices.
• Collaborate with teachers and administrators to improve literacy outcomes.
• Coordinate literacy curriculum, pacing, and assessment practices.
• Plan and deliver professional learning aligned to district initiatives.
• Coach teachers in structured literacy strategies and interventions.
• Collaborate with special education and ELL teams for equitable access.
• Participate in MTSS and literacy leadership committees.
