Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT seeks a Manufacturing Engineering Structural Engineer for the 2nd shift to support VIRGINIA Class, Overhaul and Repair, and COLUMBIA Class construction.

The role develops build strategies, methods and fixtures for fabricating submarine components, prepares manufacturing procedures, and provides deckplate construction support, coordinating with Groton, Quonset Point and Newport News teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Marine engineering.
• 0-5 years engineering experience.
• 2nd shift position.
• Preferred: Construction support experience.
• Preferred: 1+ years engineering experience.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in Civil, Structural, Mechanical, Manufacturing or Marine engineering.
• Broad understanding of structural/mechanical design, materials, weld design and bolted joints.

Responsibilities

• Develop build strategies, methods and fixtures for fabricating and assembling submarine components, structures, systems and modules.
• Prepare Manufacturing Engineering procedures for sequence and alignment of critical installations, and deckplate construction support.
• Identify and develop tools and methods required by the shipbuilder.
