Job summary

Sims Metal is seeking a hands-on 2nd Shift Yard Foreman to oversee daily scrap-yard operations at our Morrisville facility. The role combines working leadership with active yard duties, supervising staff and coordinating shift tasks to ensure safe, efficient production.

The ideal candidate will have prior supervisory experience in industrial settings, familiarity with heavy equipment, and a strong commitment to safety and reliability in outdoor, variable weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Supervisory or lead experience in scrap yard or similar industrial environment.
• Experience operating heavy equipment preferred.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather.
• Commitment to workplace safety and following procedures.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate employees during the second shift.
• Assign daily work and monitor production throughout the shift.
• Enforce company safety policies and conduct shift safety meetings.
• Operate heavy equipment as needed, including excavators, material handlers, loaders, skid steers, and forklifts.
• Oversee scrap sorting, processing, loading, unloading, and material movement.
• Ensure equipment inspections are completed, and maintenance concerns are reported promptly.
• Train, coach, and direct employees.
• Monitor employee attendance, productivity, and job performance.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
• Communicate production results, equipment issues, and employee concerns to management.
• Assist with troubleshooting operational problems and minimizing downtime.
• Complete shift reports and other required documentation.
