Job summary

Sims Metal, a global leader in metal recycling, is seeking a Foreman to supervise outdoor operations at our Jersey City facility. You will coordinate loading, unloading, sorting, processing and transfer of recyclable materials, ensuring safety, quality and regulatory compliance.

The role emphasizes warehouse/yard leadership, equipment planning, team mentorship, and accurate recordkeeping, with a focus on efficient production and a strong safety culture.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• 3 to 5 years of experience in recycling/scrap metal or related industries.
• Previous supervisory or leadership experience preferred.
• Ability to work in indoor and outdoor environments and in all weather conditions.
• Strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Basic computer skills and experience maintaining operational records preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate and supervise employees involved in receipt, handling, processing, and shipment of recyclable materials.
• Plan the use of material handling equipment including conveyors, cranes, loaders, forklifts, tractors, and trucks.
• Monitor workflow to meet efficiency and productivity goals.
• Oversee recordkeeping for materials received, processed, and shipped.
• Inspect incoming materials and verify documentation and invoices.
• Enforce safety policies and regulatory requirements.
• Communicate job assignments, schedules, and performance expectations.
• Train and motivate employees to achieve safety and operational targets.
• Maintain accurate timekeeping and production records.
• Coordinate with other supervisors to ensure smooth operations.
• Identify and report hazards and near misses.
• Direct customers, vendors, and visitors to unloading areas.
• Maintain housekeeping and promote culture of safety and continuous improvement.
