Job summary

Sims Metal is seeking a seasoned 2nd Shift Yard Foreman to oversee daily scrap-yard operations and maintain safety, efficiency, and schedule adherence. This hands-on leadership role requires supervising staff while actively supporting yard activities.

Responsibilities include directing the second shift, coordinating work, enforcing safety, operating heavy equipment, and ensuring productive material handling. Strong leadership and weather-resilient stamina are essential.

Qualifications

• Minimum supervision experience in a scrap yard, recycling facility, construction site, or similar industrial setting.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical work.
• Willingness to work overtime and weekends as required.
• Commitment to workplace safety and following procedures.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate employees during the second shift.
• Assign daily work and monitor production throughout the shift.
• Enforce safety policies and conduct shift safety meetings.
• Operate heavy equipment as needed (excavators, material handlers, loaders, forklifts).
• Oversee scrap sorting, processing, loading, unloading and material movement.
• Ensure equipment inspections and report maintenance concerns promptly.
• Train, coach, and direct employees; monitor attendance and performance.
• Maintain a clean, organized, safe work environment and report results.
