Job Description
Purpose of Position:
This position will plan, manage, direct, communicate, and implement production strategies and objectives to ensure the achievement of the Production department goals. Ensure employee safety, training, food safety training, quality control, labor cost management, proper utilization of materials, floor organization/flow efficiencies, and all other resources involved in daily production. This position will have direct responsibilities for all day-to-day activities and organization/cleanliness of the production facility.
Ensure that La Canasta General Manufacturing Practices are fully implemented at all times.
Education/Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent - highly desirable
- 3-5 years of experience in food manufacturing under any regulatory agency
- Bilingual Spanish/English - helpful (write and read)
- Computer proficient
- Effective training, planning, and critical thinking skills. Must demonstrate a sense of urgency to accomplish tasks.
- Creative in employee retention and promoting an enjoyable working environment
Responsibilities:
- Support the safety program; meet quality specifications, control costs, and fully implement La Canasta’s Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
- Ensure proper training of production staff in preparation for 3rd-party unannounced facility audits.
- Plan labor accordingly to avoid overtime; zero overtime is the standard.
- Work with the maintenance department to ensure proper equipment maintenance support and reduce production downtime.
- Collaborate with Quality Assurance to address concerns affecting product specifications.
- Maintain communication with the Plant Operations Manager regarding deficiencies affecting production efficiencies.
- Hire and train new employees.
- Ensure daily start-up checklists are fully implemented and followed.
- Communicate equipment malfunctions to the production manager that affect efficiencies.
- Review and recommend pay raises for employees under your responsibility to the production manager.
- Develop a cross-training program to mitigate risks due to lack of skilled labor.
- Ensure timely disciplinary actions.
- Directly supervise shift employees.
- Prepare daily production performance reports and submit them to the plant manager.
- Evaluate processes to reduce waste.
- Maintain updated SOPs for all production employee positions.
- Participate actively in the implementation of new equipment.
- Monitor and reduce overtime to the lowest levels.
- Strive to maintain the highest quality standards.
- Implement an effective training program for all positions.
- Ensure and maintain a clean and organized production facility.
