Job summary

SMS Staffing is seeking a Line Mechanic near Waukegan, IL, to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain production and packaging equipment. The role requires a hands-on approach and ability to work the 2nd shift, Monday–Thursday, 3:30 pm–2:00 am, with potential for temp-to-hire.

Pay starts at $25+/hour, with opportunities to gain experience in conveyors, case erectors, labelers, and fillers, while ensuring safety compliance and efficient line operation. English communication required.

Qualifications

• Previous industrial maintenance, mechanical repair, or machine maintenance experience preferred.
• Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing production or packaging equipment.
• Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
• Basic electrical or PLC knowledge is a plus.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform standing, walking, bending, reaching, and climbing.
• Must be able to read and communicate effectively in English.
• Flexible with overtime.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair production and packaging machinery.
• Maintain and perform preventive maintenance on production equipment.
• Repair equipment such as conveyors, case erectors, case packers, labelers, and fillers.
• Respond to equipment breakdowns and minimize production downtime.
• Perform machine adjustments, changeovers, and setups as needed.
• Follow safety, lockout/tagout, and PPE requirements.
• Maintain a clean and safe work area.
