Job summary

Forward Air Corp. in Indianapolis is seeking a Dispatcher - Local to coordinate freight with established SOPs, enter data accurately, monitor shipments, and provide timely updates to drivers and internal teams.

You will be the primary contact for drivers, support independent contractors, ensure on-time delivery, and escalate issues as needed. This on-site role runs Mon-Fri 2pm-10pm with a pay rate of $22.14 per hour and requires a High school diploma and strong customer service.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to follow established processes in a fast-paced environment.
• Basic problem-solving and escalation when needed.
• Comfort using dispatch systems; AS400 experience a plus.
• Professionalism when working with drivers and internal partners.
• Transportation or dispatch experience preferred.
• Reliability and consistent attendance.
• Proficiency in Microsoft O365 and common office tech.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate, schedule, and dispatch customer freight using established processes.
• Serve as primary contact for driver communications by phone, Qualcomm, and email.
• Relay instructions and updates to independent contractors and document interactions.
• Monitor shipment status and provide updates for on-time delivery.
• Identify basic service issues and escalate to supervisors.
• Maintain records of driver hours, performance, and availability.
• Provide straightforward customer updates and route information.
• Collaborate with customer service/sales to resolve routine issues.
• Follow SOPs and compliance requirements.
• Support new drivers with system instructions and basic guidance.
• Perform data entry and administrative tasks to support fleet operations.
• All other duties as assigned.
