Job summary

WM (Waste Management) in Irvine, CA is seeking a Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair a diverse fleet. You will work with electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems, and you may travel for a two-week training in Arizona.

A valid driver’s license and your own tools are required. Starting pay is $33.25 per hour with a $2.00 shift differential, plus a tool allowance of $500 twice a year and a boot allowance of $350.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of relevant mechanical experience.
• Knowledge of CNG, electrical fleet engines, hydraulics, and airbrakes.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on a wide range of vehicles.
• Estimate time and material costs for vehicle repairs.
• Work within Standard Labor Repair Times (SRTs).
• Respond to service calls for emergency breakdowns.
• Maintain safety checks and a clean work area according to OSHA standards.
• Document parts usage and repair times.
• Assist senior mechanics with project work.
• Review or assign repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.

Monday - Thursday every week6:00pm-4:30amFriday 5:00pm-1:30amOccasional Saturdays

The normal setting for this job is a repair / maintenance shop at our Irvine, CA hauling site.

• Inspect, diagnose and repair electrical, hydraulic, suspension, brake and air systems on a wide range of vehicles and equipment.
• Estimates time and material costs on vehicle repairs and new parts.
• Perform your work within our Standard Labor Repair Times (SRTs).
• Respond to service calls for emergency breakdowns.
• Safety checks on vehicles - the safety of every single employee and the people in our communities is our number one priority
• Complete required paperwork, documenting parts usage, and accounting for repair times.
• Assisting senior Mechanics in the completion of project work.
• Reviews, completes, or assigns repairs identified on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
• Maintains a clean, safe work area in compliance with Corporate / OSHA Standards and perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.

What do you need to be considered for the role of Diesel Mechanic:

• 2 years of relevant work experience
• A valid drivers license, with a clean driving record
• Be over 18 years of age.
• Legally eligible to work in the United States
• Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
• Successfully complete and pass pre-employment drug screen and physical.

Work environment and physical demands

• Required to exert physical effort that will include but is not limited to frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, crouching, and climbing; Constantly standing, walking, and grasping; Occasionally: sitting and balancing
• Required to be exposed to physical occupational risks (such as cuts, burns, exposure to toxic chemicals, etc.) often;
• Required to be exposed to physical environment which involves dirt, odors, noise, weather extremes or similar elements often;
• This job operates in both inside garage, shop or gas plant conditions as well as in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity.

Pay : The expected base pay range for this on-site position is $33.25. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate's relevant experience, edu
