Qualifications

Job description

Waste Connections is looking to hire a 2nd Shift Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Houston, TX! Located at Wilson Rd Humble, TX 77396.

Shift: 12:30 pm – 11:30 pm, Monday to Friday, and every other Saturday 10 am – 2:30 pm.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform repairs including, but not limited to, routine maintenance, engine repairs, chassis and body components, hydraulic cylinders, brake systems, suspension systems, cooling systems, wheels, and tires.
  • Inspect equipment and trucks for condition, operations, parts, fluid levels, differentials, final drives, pump drives, and hubs.
  • Knowledge of hydraulics repair is required.
  • Use vehicle computer electronic systems to interpret failure modes and initiate or assign repairs.
  • Conduct safety checks on vehicles and equipment.
  • Complete required paperwork using fleet maintenance software, documenting parts usage and repair times.
  • Review, complete, or assign repairs based on Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports.
  • Perform maintenance-related tasks as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, safe work area in compliance with corporate and OSHA standards.
  • Follow safety protocols while working on vehicles.
  • Communicate effectively regarding repairs or tasks needed.
  • Engage in extensive physical activity, including heavy lifting over 50 pounds, pushing, or pulling objects.
  • Work environment may be indoors in a shop or outdoors on the road, often in well-lit and ventilated areas, sometimes in awkward or tight positions, handling greasy or dirty tools. Safety precautions are essential.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • At least 2+ years of experience directly related to the duties above.
  • Must provide own personal tools. Welding/fabrication experience is a plus.
  • ASE Certifications are preferred but not required.
