Job summary

The University of Texas Medical Branch Police Department seeks a Telecommunicator to provide rapid response and direction for law enforcement and emergencies. The role requires licensure as a Texas Telecommunicator or initiation within one year, plus CPR certification and ongoing training.

Responsibilities include dispatching officers, handling multiple lines, and monitoring alarms and CAD systems, while maintaining accurate records and coordination with partner agencies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 1 year of customer service or related experience.
• Must be a Texas Telecommunicator or obtain licensure within 1 year by passing background and the 40-hour Basic Telecommunicator Course and Crisis Communications Course as required by TCOLE.
• CPR certification (TCOLE 3845 or equivalent) within 1 month of employment.
• Maintain Telecommunicator License with minimum 20 hours of continuing training every 2 years, including CPR and Cardiac Emergency Communications.

Responsibilities

• Dispatch officers by radio to emergencies requiring police response.
• Answer multiple phone lines clearly; manage CAD, phones, and alarms simultaneously.
• Monitor alarms, crime data, and enter data; analyze situations quickly and take appropriate action.
• Maintain records of calls and patrol activities; coordinate with other emergency responders.
• Operate CAD and other computer terminals; complete required reports and adhere to internal controls.
