Job summary

UC San Diego Health is seeking a detail-oriented Bed Management Coordinator for our 24/7 Mission Control to manage patient transfer intake, bed planning and placement across the hospital system.

Responsibilities include assigning beds based on clinical needs, monitoring occupancy, coordinating with transfer teams, and supporting efficient patient flow, discharges and turnover with Nursing, EVS and Transport. This role requires experience in hospital operations and strong organizational skills.

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of relevant experience in hospital operations, patient flow, bed management, or related administrative/ clinical support role.
• Strong organizational skills in a high-volume environment with multitasking ability.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills across clinical and non-clinical teams.

Responsibilities

• Assign patients to beds based on clinical needs, acuity and capacity for timely placement.
• Collaborate with MC Enterprise Flow Nurse & Transfer Flow Nurse for clinically appropriate bed assignments.
• Monitor bed occupancy and adjust assignments to support admissions, discharges and transfers.
• Handle administrative duties related to patient transfers with nursing teams and the Transfer Center Flow Nurse.
• Assist in coordinating patient discharges and bed turnover to keep rooms available for new patients.
• Coordinate with EVS & Transport to expedite bed turnover and patient movement.
• Update bed tracking systems and communicate status changes during patient flow huddles.
