Job summary

Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is seeking a construction intern to inspect routine construction items for conformance to plans and specifications. Duties include assisting with inspections, field layout, and preparing changes or estimates under supervision.

The role involves supporting inspectors with paving, culverts, signs, and traffic-related items, with some night work possibly required. Enrolled in an ABET-accredited program and meeting credit-hour requirements are essential

Qualifications

• Enrolled in ABET-accredited bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
• Must have completed 30 credit hours toward current degree program.
• Maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Assist with coordinating and performing construction inspections verifying compliance with contracts, specifications, and engineering principles.
• Assist inspectors with routine inspection items and field checks including paving, culverts, signs, and traffic signals.
• Assist with measurements, computations, or other work for final plans, change orders, and contractor payments.

• Assist with coordinating and performing construction inspections verifying that contractors' activities are in compliance with contracts, specifications, and engineering principles.
• Assist construction inspectors with routine inspection items, such as asphaltic or portland cement concrete plants, asphaltic or concrete paving, including grading and base, small bridges, concrete box and pipe culverts; general or specific items, such as utility adjustments, signing, traffic signals and lighting.
• Assist with performing measurements, computations, or other work in preparing final plans, change orders, contractor payment estimates, and engineering costs.
• Provide field checks for contractor surveying operations; assist party chief on routine layout and staking.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions

Some night work may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Enrolled in a relevant ABET-accredited bachelor's or post-bachelor's degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
• 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
• Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
