Job summary

MoDOT is seeking a construction intern to inspect routine items for conformance to plans and specifications, under moderate supervision at the Jefferson City Project Office.

You will assist with inspections of asphaltic and concrete paving, grading and base, small bridges, culverts, and related utilities, plus surveying and staking support. This paid internship is contingent on prior related intern experience; applicants must be enrolled in ABET-accredited programs and meet academic requirements.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in an ABET‑accredited bachelor's or post-bachelor's degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
• Must have completed 30 credit hours toward the current degree.
• Overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Responsibilities

• Assist with inspecting routine construction items for conformance to plans, specifications, and contract terms.
• Assist inspectors with routine inspections of paving, grading, utilities, bridges, and culverts.
• Assist with measurements, computations, and preparing final plans, change orders, and cost estimates.
• Provide field checks for surveying operations and routine staking with the party chief.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Assist with coordinating and performing construction inspections verifying that contractors' activities are in compliance with contracts, specifications, and engineering principles.
• Assist construction inspectors with routine inspection items, such as asphaltic or portland cement concrete plants, asphaltic or concrete paving, including grading and base, small bridges, concrete box and pipe culverts; general or specific items, such as utility adjustments, signing, traffic signals and lighting.
• Assist with performing measurements, computations, or other work in preparing final plans, change orders, contractor payment estimates, and engineering costs.
• Provide field checks for contractor surveying operations; assist party chief on routine layout and staking.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Special Working Conditions:

Some night work may be required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Enrolled in a relevant ABET-accredited bachelor's or post-bachelor's degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
• 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
• Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
