Job summary

Missouri Department of Transportation at the Osage Beach Project Office is seeking a construction intern to inspect routine construction items for conformance to plans, specifications, special provisions, and contract terms. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision.

Responsibilities include assisting with inspections of paving and bridge-related items, aiding measurements and cost estimates, and supporting field surveying and staking efforts. Some night work may be required.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a relevant ABET-accredited bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
• Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.

Responsibilities

• Assist with coordinating and performing construction inspections verifying that contractors' activities are in compliance with contracts, specifications, and engineering principles.
• Assist construction inspectors with routine inspection items, such as asphaltic or Portland cement concrete plants, asphaltic or concrete paving, including grading and base, small bridges, concrete box and pipe culverts; general or specific items, such as utility adjustments, signing, traffic signals and lighting.
• Assist with performing measurements, computations, or other work in preparing final plans, change orders, contractor payment estimates, and engineering costs.
• Provide field checks for contractor surveying operations; assist party chief on routine layout and staking.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
• Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
