Job summary

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is seeking a construction intern for the Columbia Project Office. You will inspect routine construction items for conformance to plans, specifications, and contract terms under moderate supervision.

Responsibilities include coordinating inspections, assisting with measurements, preparing estimates and change orders, and supporting survey layout. Some night work may be required; enrollment in an ABET-accredited program with a 2.0+ GPA is expected.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in ABET-accredited bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
• Completed 30 credit hours toward current degree; credits shown by transcript.
• Overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale.

Responsibilities

• Assist with coordinating and performing construction inspections verifying contractors' activities are in compliance with contracts, specifications, and engineering principles.
• Assist construction inspectors with routine inspection items, such as asphaltic or Portland cement concrete plants, asphaltic or concrete paving, including grading and base, small bridges, concrete box and pipe culverts; general or specific items, such as utility adjustments, signing, traffic signals and lighting.
• Assist with performing measurements, computations, or other work in preparing final plans, change orders, contractor payment estimates, and engineering costs.
• Provide field checks for contractor surveying operations; assist party chief on routine layout and staking.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Enrolled in a relevant ABET-accredited bachelor's or post-bachelor's degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
• 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
• Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
