Job summary

MoDOT's Central District in Missouri seeks a construction intern to inspect routine construction items for conformance to plans, specifications, and contract terms. Responsibilities are performed under moderate supervision at the St. James project office.

The role involves assisting with inspections, coordinating with inspectors, taking measurements, and supporting field surveying and layout tasks. Night work may be required during Special Working Conditions.

Qualifications

• ABET-accredited bachelor’s or post-bachelor’s degree program (full-time).
• Completion of at least 30 credit hours toward current degree. GPA at least 2.0/4.0 required.

Responsibilities

• Assist with coordinating and performing construction inspections verifying that contractors' activities are in compliance with contracts, specifications, and engineering principles.
• Assist construction inspectors with routine inspection items, such as asphaltic or portland cement concrete plants, asphaltic or concrete paving, including grading and base, small bridges, concrete box and pipe culverts; general or specific items, such as utility adjustments, signing, traffic signals and lighting.
• Assist with performing measurements, computations, or other work in preparing final plans, change orders, contractor payment estimates, and engineering costs.
• Provide field checks for contractor surveying operations; assist party chief on routine layout and staking.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• Enrolled in a relevant ABET-accredited bachelor's or post-bachelor's degree program full-time (12+ credit hours).
• 30 credit hours completed/accepted toward current degree program. High school or other postsecondary program credits must be shown to be accepted by the current program through a degree transcript to apply.
• Possess and maintain an overall GPA of at least 2.0 out of 4.0, or equivalent.
