Description

Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) and Pueblo Nuevo Education Development Group (PN-EDG) work collaboratively to ensure the success of a network of charter schools serving students across the PK-Post Secondary continuum in the Greater MacArthur Park neighborhood of Los Angeles. We integrate a strong focus on progressive, research-based academics with a holistic, place-based approach to serving our students. Since opening in 2001, CNCA has grown to 8 schools with nearly 3,500 students. Our goal is that by 2022, 2,000 CNCA graduates will be equipped with the skills, knowledge, and worldview necessary to be literate, critical thinkers, and independent problem solvers. As a result, 90% will have been accepted to college, 80% will have attended, and 60% will have graduated from a 4-year college within 6 years.

The Opportunity

CNCA seeks candidates committed to serving in under-resourced communities. We are looking for teachers who embrace research-based, innovative curricular frameworks such as balanced literacy and conceptual-based math. Our approach emphasizes ongoing professional development, collaboration, and innovative teaching practices. Teachers should be visionaries eager to demonstrate that public education in low-income, primarily immigrant, multilingual communities can succeed. Teachers will receive a competitive salary, healthcare, and retirement benefits.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with teams, grade levels, and staff to ensure progress towards school goals and professional growth.
  • Create engaging curricula and lessons aligned with our frameworks to promote student academic growth.
  • Design and implement integrated curriculum units, differentiating and scaffolding for all students.
  • Regularly assess student progress to inform instruction and meet student needs.
  • Participate in professional development and collaborative meetings, engaging in ongoing learning.
  • Communicate regularly with students, families, colleagues, and stakeholders to support student progress.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of student achievement and progress.
  • Create a nurturing and engaging classroom environment.
  • Support the school's mission, vision, and policies.
  • Own professional growth and collaborate with colleagues to foster development.
  • Work closely with children and families to promote growth and success.
  • Maintain punctual attendance.
Qualifications
  • Valid California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Mathematics. Candidates with equivalent out-of-state certification must transfer to CTC within 14 days.
  • CLAD/English Language Learner Authorization; must be obtained within one year if not already possessed.
  • Proven experience with English language learners.
  • Ability to implement varied instructional strategies.
  • Educational vision and experience with low-income and/or minority students.
  • Passion for working with children and families.
