Job summary

Smalley is seeking a skilled grinder/operator to support the production floor in Lake Zurich, IL. You will operate manual surface grinders (Okamoto, Acer) to grind a wide variety of parts, while coordinating with Tool Room staff for setups and tooling needs.

The role requires strong mechanical aptitude, reading drawings, and proficiency with hand tools and measuring devices. A high school diploma or equivalent is required and basic math/English exams apply.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Strong mechanical aptitude including ability to read drawings, utilize hand tools and measuring tools.
• Understanding of Tool Room terminology.
• Pass required exam of basic math and English.

Responsibilities

• Assists the production floor with tooling needs, ensuring quality and safe practices, at an appropriate rate for the job.
• Operates manual surface grinders (Okamoto, Acer) to grind a wide variety of parts.
• Works with Tool Room Staff to complete set ups involving fixtures, angle plates, or clamps.
• Selects wheels, feeds, and depth of cut for grinding and sharpens wheels to maintain quality.
• Completes physical inventory counts, reports shortages, and reorders stock as needed.
