Job summary

Smalley Steel Ring Company in Lake Zurich, IL is seeking a tool room/ grinding support associate for our 2nd shift. The role focuses on assisting the production floor with tooling needs, ensuring quality, safety, and steady output for a wide range of parts.

Responsibilities include operating surface grinders (Okamoto and Acer), setting up fixtures, selecting grinding parameters, maintaining tooling, and managing inventory. A high school diploma and basic math/English test are required.

Qualifications

• Experience in manufacturing environments is preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent is required.
• Strong mechanical aptitude including reading drawings and using hand tools and measuring tools.
• Understanding of Tool Room terminology.
• Pass the basic math and English exam.

Responsibilities

• Assists the production floor with their tooling needs, according to company and customer requirements, ensuring quality standards are consistently met, using safe practices and producing at the appropriate rate for the job.
• Operates manual surface grinders, Okamoto Grinder, and Acer Grinder to grind a wide variety of parts
• Works with Tool Room Staff to complete ordinary set ups involving holding fixtures, angle plates, or clamping to table
• Selects wheels, feeds, and depth of cut for grinding and sharpens wheels to maintain quality
• Assigns or checks out tooling as needed, checks in and stores incoming tooling and supplies, ensures all is stored safely
• Completes physical inventory counts, reports shortages, and reorders stock as needed

A reasonable estimate of the base hourly range for this role is $18.00 - $20.00 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location.This role is bonus/and or incentive eligible.
