Job summary

Smalley is seeking a manufacturing operator in Lake Zurich, IL to set up and operate multiple machine groups, load wire, and monitor quality throughout the process. The role emphasizes precision measurement, tool handling, and collaboration with leads to maintain production targets.

Ideal candidates will have manufacturing experience, hands-on ability with high-speed equipment, and the capacity to perform basic troubleshooting.

Qualifications

• Experience working in a manufacturing environment.
• Mechanical experience including operation of high speed automatic and semi-automatic equipment.
• Set up and adjustment of metal forming processes (stamping, forming, shearing).
• Experience troubleshooting production equipment.
• Experience measuring parts with precision instruments (micrometers, digital calipers).
• Pass required exam of math and English.

Responsibilities

• Learns to independently set up 25% and operate 100% of the machine groups in the respective area.
• Opens and closes each job.
• Loads wire efficiently and safely using appropriate tools and removes empty spools.
• Measures and inspects the wire quality throughout each step of the set up process.
• Operates all testing equipment including micrometers, calipers, etc.
• Retrieves all gauges, tooling, racks, and materials needed.
• Demonstrates ability to perform heat sampling.
• Removes and installs machine tooling.
• Sets up machine(s), adjusts tooling, sets parameters for each job.
• Assists leads and supervisors with teaching and training machine Operators.
• Learns basic troubleshooting and adjustments to machines.
• Communicates regularly with machine Operators regarding machine issues.
• Performs wire rejection procedures.
• Participates in cross departmental work production.
• Upholds defined quality standards to maximize customer satisfaction and efficiency.
