Job summary

Great Lakes Cheese is seeking a Maintenance Technician I–IV to keep equipment running smoothly on our production floor. This rotating 12-hour shift (6:00am–6:00pm) emphasizes timely repairs, preventive maintenance, and reliable problem solving to minimize downtime.

Responsibilities include responding to line requests, maintaining machinery, creating parts requisitions, and documenting maintenance activities while adhering to safety, GMP, and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • 1 year of maintenance experience and/or training.
  • Fundamental understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to make decisions based on standard practices.
  • Entry level experience and knowledge of production machinery and equipment.
  • Basic understanding of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Familiarity with OSHA regulations.
  • Basic computer skills.

Job Overview

The Maintenance Technician I, II, III, or IV will ensure maximum operating efficiency through the repair of machines and equipment in production and facility. The assigned level will depend on experience, qualifications, and work history. This is a rotating 12-hour schedule position with hours from 6:00am-6:00pm.

Job Responsibilities

Preferred Education and Experience
  • 5 years of maintenance experience and/or training or more.
  • Extensive understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Broad depth of experience and knowledge of production machinery and equipment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, troubleshoot and problem solve.
  • Extensive electrical knowledge/training.
  • Extensive knowledge of mechanical, electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Ability to weld. (TIG, MIG and Stick)
Working Conditions
  • Ability to constantly stand/walk; bend/flex/extend neck; frequently grip/reach/lift/pull with L/R hands.
  • Ability to frequently handle material from floor-to-waist, waist-to-shoulder and pushing/pulling/carrying.
  • Product weight: up to 50 lbs.
  • Repetitive work in a fast-paced production environment with average temperature of 50-60 degrees F.
