Job summary

The Salvation Army – Adult Rehabilitation Centers (ARC) in Kansas City, MO offers a Manager-in-Training (MIT) program that prepares leaders for a Store Manager I role. The 12‑week paid training blends classroom instruction, hands-on store training, and progress checkpoints to ensure readiness for advancement.

Upon completion, MITs may advance to Store Manager I, leading a thrift store with potential sales up to $1M annually, with a strong emphasis on mission-driven leadership and community

Qualifications

• Previous retail or supervisory/management experience preferred.
• Strong leadership, initiative, and communication skills.
• Commitment to The Salvation Army mission and values.
• Ability to qualify for TSA Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) requirements.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to perform bank runs.
• Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs (occasionally up to 100 lbs)

Responsibilities

• Lead daily retail operations to achieve sales and production goals.
• Recruit, train, and develop staff while fostering a positive, mission-driven culture.
• Oversee donation, production, and sales workflows for efficiency and compliance.
• Ensure store appearance, safety standards, and customer experience excellence.
• Manage financial controls, including bank runs, deposits, and cash accountability.
• Monitor expenses, inventory, and asset protection.
• Communicate effectively with Regional Managers and ARC leadership.
