Job summary

Frederick Douglass Elementary School, part of Cincinnati Public Schools, seeks a Paraprofessional to support students with special needs in a 1:1 or unit-based setting. This role reports to the building principal and assists certified staff to meet instructional goals.

The ideal candidate will have an education background, be able to communicate effectively, and foster a safe, respectful classroom environment while supporting reading, math, and daily activities in a diverse urban school.

Qualifications

• The successful candidate shall have the training, skills and ability to communicate effectively, problem solve and work independently.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain an Educational Aide Permit issued by the State of Ohio
• Prior experience working with children desirable

Responsibilities

• Assist and guide students to reinforce reading, language arts, mathematics, and computer instruction.
• Work with students individually and in small groups to reinforce basic learning and implement assigned programs.
• Assist professional staff in the administration and correction of classroom exercises, tests and assessments.
• Assist with record-keeping procedures to document student learning and performance.
• Assist with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions and keep students on task.
• Accompany students on field trips for supervision.
• Follow safety rules and procedures for all students, including those with disabilities.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
