Job summary

ALTON COMMUNITY UNIT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 11 seeks a 1:1 Special Education Teacher Assistant for a 7-hour day, 9-month, 174-day schedule in Alton, IL.

The role provides dedicated support to a student with special needs, under direction of classroom staff, to access the curriculum. Responsibilities include supervising the student in all settings, following safety plans, promoting engagement, collecting behavior data, and assisting with instructional and clerical tasks.

Qualifications

• Paraprofessional credential required with reliable attendance.
• Ability to work independently under supervision and in teams.
• Experience supporting students in general or special education settings.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized supervision and stay near the student in all settings.
• Follow student safety plans and implement strategies for behaviors.
• Support transitions, routines, and classroom activities throughout the day.
• Encourage communication, appropriate behaviour, and independence.
• Collect relevant behavior data and communicate with teachers.
• Assist with personal care needs if required (toileting, feeding, mobility).
• Support the Special Education teacher with instructional tasks as needed.
• Assist in grading and record-keeping tasks and clerical duties.
• Be reliable, punctual, and follow assigned schedules.
• Participate in required trainings relevant to duties.
