Job summary

Seattle Public Schools is seeking a dedicated Special Education Assistant to support students with special needs in regular or self-contained classrooms. You will assist with instruction, monitor behavior, and help implement IEP goals under teacher supervision.

The role includes coordinating with teachers and families, attending IEP meetings when needed, and maintaining records and materials to ensure effective learning environments across classrooms.

Qualifications

• Education Testing Service paraeducator assessment or higher equivalent required.
• Associate degree or higher from an accredited college or university or completion of required college credits.
• Apprenticeship as a paraeducator (registered) is acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Adapt classroom activities and materials to ensure participation of all special education students.
• Administer tests, homework, papers, and organize student records for progress evaluation.
• Monitor safety and assist with medical or personal care needs as required.
• Attend meetings and contribute to IEP planning and progress reporting.
• Collaborate with teachers and parents to support individual education plans.
• Implement behavioral plans and support students in learning activities.
• Maintain organized instructional materials and student files.
