Job summary

Seattle Public Schools seeks a Special Education Assistant/ISE-203 to support students with special needs in regular or self-contained classrooms. The role includes assisting in implementing instructional plans and monitoring behavior to create a conducive learning environment.

The position involves adapting activities under teacher guidance, administering materials and basic care, and attending IEP meetings to discuss progress and objectives.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities, assignments and materials under teacher guidance to include all special education students.
• Administers materials, tests, homework and folders to assist teachers in evaluating progress and organizing individual needs.
• Administers first aid and medical assistance as required to provide appropriate care for injured children.
• Assists students requiring support with personal care needs due to medical conditions or physical limitations to help them function in school.
• Attends meetings and in-service presentations (e.g., first aid, CPR, emergency procedures) to acquire or convey job-related information.
• Confers with teachers on evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives.
• Communicates with teachers and parents about student progress per the IEP.
• Directs and implements behavioral plans for students with behavior disorders to meet needs safely.
• Instructs students in various activities in individual and small group settings.
